National Expert on Transportation and Aging to speak at UVM

The UVM Transportation Research Center will host Joseph Coughlin, Director of the MIT AgeLab on February 24th from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the John Dewey Lounge, Old Mill, UVM. He is a well-known authority on the concerns that older adults will face in the coming decades, in particular, the challenges and conflicts concerning transportation. Dr. Coughlin examines questions which face our aging population such as whether to use public transportation, how to understand the new technology, and simply how to continue to drive safely.

In his lecture, Dr. Coughlin addresses issues faced by policymakers, transportation officials, vehicle manufacturers, health and human services professionals, and aging adults themselves, as the baby boomers place new demands on the transportation sector.

The presentation is part of UVM's Dan and Carole Burack President's Distinguished Lecture Series. It is free and open to the public with a reception immediately following. For information, call 656-1312. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should call 656-5665.
